COLD - was the word for our January camp out. We camped on the Laxton Farm in Smithville on January 8-9. It was snowing when we left, It snowed all night, and it was snowing when we returned. The reported temperature in McMinnville was 7 degrees with a wind chill of 5 below. Because there was no school on Friday, we were able to leave a little earlier at about 2:30. Jake and some of the boys had gone up even earlier to set up an orienteering course for first class requirement. Steven L, Graham P, and Cole M passed off the orienteering requirements for first class. Everyone packed and cooked their own meals, which ranged from canned food to hamburgers in the evening and from pop tarts to sausage and oatmeal for breakfast. The boys went on a evening hike on Friday night. On Saturday, some of the boys played on a zip line. The picture of a thermometer was sent to me from Lonnie from his house, a few miles away. The picture of the frozen shoe laces are Harrison's. There is one more video coming. Hayden took a video of Jared opening a bottle of Propel. The bottle of liquid freezes completely in a matter of about 10 seconds when opened.
Attending overnight was Hayden P, William H, Harrison H, Alexander H, Wesley H, Jared K, Cole M, and Steven L. Adults were Jake M and Adrian H. On Friday night, the following came up for a few hours, Bryce C, Jake B, Graham P, Noah M, and Bradley C, along with adults Brian C and Harold R. Of course, Lonnie L had been there earlier Friday and earlier in the week, making sure that all would be ok.
